Back-to-School Night

This Thursday — Starting at 5 p.m Sharp!

Dear Family and Frriends,

Lighthouse is an effective school because we are a community. A community where students are known well. A community where families feel welcome and communicate with teachers. A community where every member supports our mission to equip each child with the skills and talents to choose the career or college of their choice. Over the first three weeks we have had the opportunity to reconnect with our families from last year while we have also been getting to know our new families. Developing existing and building new relationships is essential to nurturing a healthy community.

Families have been in the school as lunch walkers, academic tutors, enrichment teachers, office staff, lunchroom coordinators, and in many other valuable roles. Families have also stopped into the school at drop-off and pick-up time to talk and observe their children. We want to continue to provide opportunities for families to get to know our community better and to understand the academic experience of their child. Our "Back to School Night" this Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm will serve as another opportunity for our community to grow closer.

The Open House is structured to connect families to classroom teachers and to clarify school policies with Steve and Jenna. The schedule is as follows:

DONATIONS ACCEPTED HERE! In this rough financial time for all schools, we ask each family to donate $5 per week. You can send your donation in the envelope provided — please send it back in the Tuesday envelope OR you can drop off $5 every Friday. This is an optional donation, BUT IF EACH FAMILY DONATES $5 PER WEEK, WE CAN RAISE $37,000 THIS YEAR!!

PARENT WORKSHOP! Are you frustrated with the communication between you and your child? Do you have a power struggle with your child each time you ask them to do something? Non-violent Communication (NVC) is a way to express feelings and requests in a compassionate way and gets great results. The Bay Area Office of NVC is offering two workshops this fall: October 4 and December 13. We are providing the space and they are providing 5 free spaces at their workshop for LCCS parents. These spots are available on first-come, first-served basis. Please see Jenna if you would like to attend.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We are still looking for volunteers for our Thursday after school program tutoring 6/7 graders. If you can spend 2 hours here each Thursday from 3:30 — 5:30, you can make a BIG difference in the academic achievement of our students! If you can’t donate your time, perhaps someone in your church or synagogue, at your workplace, or a neighbor can! Reach out to others and get them involved!
