Beginning
in the 6th grade, when they enter the "upper house"
(grades 6 12) students participate in family-like groups
called advisories with a small student: advisor ratio. Facilitated
by adult advisors, advisories serve as an opportunity for students
to build teamwork skills, discuss issues, resolve conflicts, and
gain leadership skills. Advisors facilitate the same group of
students for at least two years. They serve as the main liaison
to parents/family members, guide students in academic and non-academic
situations, and maintain ILPs and Family Partnership Plans, and
advocate for his or her advisees when necessary.
