Family Compact
There are many ways that you MUST be involved and participate
at Lighthouse. These are detailed in the "School/Family Compact."
All families must sign the School/Family Compact before the first
day of school. See the Appendix for a copy of the School/Family
Compact. If you have not signed a School/Family Compact, please
contact the Director of Instruction or your student’s teacher.
Through the Family/School Compact, LCCS parents pledge to:
Provide Home Academic Support by:
- Ensuring my child comes to school ready to learn.
- Assisting and monitoring homework assignments.
- Reading with my child(ren) every night and/or providing a
quiet place to work.
- Following through with school recommended actions.
- Reviewing this agreement with my child.
- Provide School Support by:
- Sending my child to school on time, in his or her required
uniform, and with a nutritious lunch.
- Supporting and adhering to the School Discipline and Conflict
Resolution Policy.
- Participate by:
- Attending three mandatory Individual Learning Plan meetings
each school year.
- Developing and fulfilling commitments in the LCCS Family
Partnership Plan.
- Attending school exhibitions of student work.
- Attending mandatory all-school meetings.
- Actively collaborating and communicating with teachers to
meet my child’s learning needs.
- Using and reinforcing the LCCS Guiding Principles.
- Allowing planned in-advance home visits throughout the year.
- Making positive contributions to the school community.
- Being an active member of the school community by working
to continuously improve the Lighthouse Community Charter School
for all students.
Family Partnership Plan
The Family Partnership Plan is the statement for how you will
contribute to the whole school community in your own individual
and unique ways. Families have the option for how they would like
to be involved and the specifics of that involvement. Ways for
you to be involved include:
- Volunteering in your child’s classroom.
- Providing food at community meetings.
- Participating on the Family Action Committee.
- Performing lunch duty
- Helping with the cleaning and maintenance of the school building
- Teaching a class at the Family Resource Center
- Translating at meetings
This list is not exhaustive and we encourage you to think of
other ways we have not mentioned for how you would like to be
involved. A sample Family Partnership Plan is located in the appendix
of this document.
Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center (FRC) is developed by families, for
families. The FRC is located on the school site and includes a
myriad of multimedia resources specific to family requests. The
FRC also includes a Referral Board that lists local resources
(e.g. Parenting Classes, and Child Care). The FRC also hosts computers
and a printer along with comfort items like a couch, coffee maker,
and the newspaper. The FRC will be the hub of information for
LCCS families and will host any and all onsite parent classes
(e.g. English Classes).
Family Action Committee
The Family Action Committee (FAC) is a voluntary group of Lighthouse
caring adults who hold monthly meetings to discuss school affairs.
The FAC is led by a LCCS family member who facilitates each meeting
and develops each agenda. The Director of Instruction and the
Director of Community Assets and Development are expected to attend
each FAC to ensure real time communication. FAC agendas will include
immediate topics of concern and strategic planning for upcoming
events; examples include school fundraising, student recruitment,
family socials, and community building events. The FAC also has
the responsibility for electing two representatives who will serve
on the School Site Leadership Team.
Open Houses
Open Houses are monthly events that rotate days of the week to
maximize family participation. The Open houses serve two distinct
purposes; one, to have a scheduled invitation, via telephone and
mailer, of families to join in on the school day, and two, to
host grade level and subject area seminars for families led by
teachers that include:
- Discipline at LCCS,
- Family Literacy Night,
- Math at LCCS, and
- How to Help with Homework.
Home Visits
Throughout the year, school staff will ask to visit your home
in order to get to know you and your child better. Home visits
are an excellent way for families and children to share and build
community with the school staff. During the development of your
Family Partnership Plan, a school administrator will call ahead
to make a home visit. Teachers may request home visits throughout
the year in order to discuss important information or learning
matters with you and your child.
We look forward to meeting you in your home and appreciate the
opportunity to visit you there. |
