About Our School - Expeditionary Learning

Expeditionary Learning
LCCS’ affiliation with Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound is a powerful enhancement of our professional development. As an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school we will benefit from:

  • Thirty (30) days of school site training, support, and feedback from a trained EL coach who also has experience with start-up charter schools
  • Off-site professional development that includes EL literacy institutes, the sharing of best practices, school visits, and leadership development

In affiliating with EL, LCCS is affirming our shared visions for schools of the 21st century while also affirming the quality of EL coaching and development.

"In a 1999 National Staff Development Council (NSCD) study of staff development programs that demonstrate an impact on student achievement in the middle grades, Expeditionary Learning was the only model of 26 programs studied that was found to meet all 27 NSCD standards for high quality staff development. EL was also rated as exemplary in a 2002 NSCD report on staff development in elementary and high schools."2

Affiliating with Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound was a simple choice when finally considering the past results of affiliation.

"Students’ academic achievement in math and reading on standardized, norm-referenced, achievement tests increased significantly as a result of their participation in ELOB when compared to other school in the states and/or districts. In addition, students’ attendance, parent involvement, attitude about school, enjoyment of school, and active engagement in learning increase as a result of the expeditionary structure of learning."3
